They’re big, they’re bad, they’re ugly and they’re at the Toronto Zoo
Asian carps are voracious eaters and grow very large very quickly. They can quickly outgrow predators and can out compete native species for food and resources. They are a serious threat to the Great Lakes, ecologically and economically.
The exhibit houses 3 of the 4 species of Asian Carp: Bighead Carp, Grass Carp and Black Carp. Their 58,000-litre tank is specially designed and equipped with an eDNA filtration system, so they are not posing any risk to Toronto’s waterways.
Come check out the exhibit and learn all about Asian carps. Now Open in the Indo-Malaya Pavilion at the Toronto Zoo!
